CIBSE calls on lighting industry to define BIM product data templates

CIBSE is calling on the lighting industry to help define the sort of product information that should be used in Building Information Modelling (BIM).

The Institute’s BIM Steering Group has launched the Product Data Templates (PDT) initiative  to help fast-track the flow of general product information into BIM models. These templates would be a standard way for manufacturers to produce information in a spreadsheet that could then be provided at the various data drops within the Construction Operations Building Information Exchange.

The organisation has made the PDTs available for public consultation and wants building services engineers, trade associations and manufacturers to provide feedback about relevant products.

So far, eight PDTs are available online, including one for luminaires and other product types such as radiators, smoke detectors and air diffusers. A further 150 are being developed.
